Jeep recall statistics vary sharply by model and model year. NHTSA’s U.S. recall API lists campaigns, while individual NHTSA alerts report the potentially involved vehicles and outcomes for particular campaigns. Together, these measures show the scale of Jeep recalls without treating campaign counts as vehicle counts.

How these Jeep recall statistics are measured
The model-year figures below are observed campaign-list counts returned by exact NHTSA Recalls API queries for the Jeep make, named model, and model year. The geography is the United States vehicle-record dataset. NHTSA says the recall dataset is updated daily, so the counts are a snapshot of the API results used for this comparison, not a permanent historical total.
A campaign count is not a count of unique vehicles. It is also not a defect count, a repair-completion rate, or a percentage of owners who completed a remedy. A model-year campaign can be reported in a later calendar year, and one vehicle can be included in more than one campaign. The campaign-specific populations in NHTSA press alerts and Part 573 reports therefore should not be added across campaigns.
The year labels are model years, not calendar-year recall totals. The API series primarily covers 2015 through 2024, with the available years differing by model. The later NHTSA alerts are separate campaign measures: they describe potentially involved U.S. vehicles and reported outcomes for particular safety issues.
Jeep Wrangler recall counts by model year
The NHTSA API listed 3 campaigns for the 2015 Jeep Wrangler and 5 each for 2016 and 2017. The count rose to 14 for 2018, then was 9 for 2019 and 12 for 2020. It reached 15 campaigns in both 2021 and 2022 before moving to 14 in 2023 and 11 in 2024. Each figure is an observed campaign-list count for United States vehicle records from the corresponding model-year query, not a count of affected Wranglers.

| 2015 | 3 |
| 2016 | 5 |

| 2019 | 9 |
| 2020 | 12 |
| 2021 | 15 |
| 2022 | 15 |
| 2023 | 14 |
| 2024 | 11 |

The Wrangler series shows why a current-model-year comparison needs context. The highest observed count in this set is 15, recorded for both 2021 and 2022. The 2024 result is 11, but that does not establish that the model year is safer or less affected overall: later campaigns may be added, and the count still measures campaigns rather than vehicles or outcomes.
Jeep Grand Cherokee recall counts by model year
Grand Cherokee counts began at 10 campaigns for model year 2015 and 9 for 2016. The API listed 6 in 2017, 11 in 2018, 7 in 2019, and 3 in 2020. Counts then increased to 12 in 2021, 13 in 2022, 21 in 2023, and 16 in 2024.

| 2019 | 7 |

The largest Grand Cherokee count in the supplied 2015–2024 series is 21 campaigns for model year 2023. The 2024 count is 16. These figures should be read as the number of listed campaigns returned for each query. They do not say how many vehicles were recalled in each model year, how many owners received repairs, or whether one safety issue affected multiple model years.
Jeep Cherokee recall counts by model year
The Cherokee API series lists 11 campaigns for 2015 and 9 for 2016. It then records 6 for 2017, 7 for 2018, and 11 for 2019. The count falls to 3 in 2020, rises to 4 in 2021, remains at 3 in 2022, and reaches 1 in 2023.

|---|---|
| 2015 | 11 |
| 2016 | 9 |

| 2023 | 1 |

Within this observed series, the highest Cherokee counts are 11 campaigns for 2015 and 2019. The single campaign listed for 2023 is a campaign-list result for that query, not a finding that every possible safety issue has been resolved or that all vehicles in the model year were unaffected.
Jeep Compass and Renegade recall counts by model year
The Compass counts are comparatively small in this API snapshot: 1 campaign each for 2015 and 2016, 4 for 2017, 6 for 2018, 2 for 2019, 1 for 2020, 4 for 2022, and 2 for 2023. No 2021 Compass result is included in the supplied series, so the absence of a row should not be interpreted as a zero.
Renegade counts were 4 in 2015, 2 in 2016, 3 in 2017, 2 in 2018, 4 in 2019, 3 in 2020, and 2 in each of 2021, 2022, and 2023.
| Model and model year | NHTSA API campaigns |
|---|---|
| Compass 2015 | 1 |
| Compass 2016 | 1 |
| Compass 2017 | 4 |
| Compass 2018 | 6 |
| Compass 2019 | 2 |
| Compass 2020 | 1 |
| Compass 2022 | 4 |
| Compass 2023 | 2 |
| Renegade 2015 | 4 |

The highest listed Compass count is 6 campaigns for 2018. The highest Renegade counts in the series are 4, recorded for 2015 and 2019. The two model lines are separate NHTSA queries and should not be combined into a vehicle total.
Jeep Gladiator and Wagoneer recall counts by model year
The Gladiator entered the supplied series with 7 campaigns for model year 2020. The API listed 8 in 2021, 8 in 2022, 6 in 2023, and 2 in 2024. Wagoneer counts were 10 in 2022, 9 in 2023, and 8 in 2024.
| Model and model year | NHTSA API campaigns |
|---|---|
| Gladiator 2020 | 7 |
| Gladiator 2021 | 8 |
| Gladiator 2022 | 8 |
| Gladiator 2023 | 6 |
| Gladiator 2024 | 2 |
| Wagoneer 2022 | 10 |

The available model-year windows matter here. Wagoneer begins at 2022 in this data, while Gladiator begins at 2020. A shorter series is not evidence of fewer lifetime recalls; it reflects the model years represented by the query results supplied for this comparison.
Large Jeep recalls and reported outcomes
Campaign counts describe how many campaigns are listed, but they do not describe campaign scale. NHTSA’s campaign-specific alerts provide that second view.
On November 4, 2025, NHTSA said an expanded “Park Outside” recall covered 320,065 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids in the United States. The affected population included 228,221 Wrangler vehicles and 91,844 Grand Cherokee vehicles. NHTSA reported 19 battery-pack fires, including 9 in vehicles that had received the earlier software remedy. These are reported recall outcomes for that campaign, not a fire rate for all Jeep vehicles. An earlier NHTSA alert, measured by October 1, 2024, reported 2 alleged injuries in the earlier Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee PHEV recall. That figure is explicitly an alleged-injury count associated with the recall reports, not a general injury rate for the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, or Jeep brand. Source: Consumer Alert: Important Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler PHEVs “Park Outside” Recall for Fire Risk.
On June 9, 2026, NHTSA said a power-steering recall affected 1,076,999 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles from model years 2021–2025. The agency said 51 fires were likely related to the issue and 1 injury was likely due to it. These counts apply to that specific U.S. recall alert and should not be added to the PHEV campaign population, because campaign populations can overlap. The March 12, 2020 Part 573 report for a manual-transmission recall listed 33,237 potentially involved Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles and estimated a 1% defect rate. The 1% figure is an estimate in that report, not an observed repair rate or a rate that can be generalized to Jeep recalls overall. Source: Part 573 Safety Recall Report 20V-124.
These campaign-specific figures answer different questions from the model-year API counts. The API counts show the number of listed campaigns for a named model-year query. The alerts and Part 573 report show potentially involved vehicles, reported fires or injuries, and one campaign’s estimated defect percentage. Keeping those units and measurement dates separate is essential when comparing Jeep recall statistics.
